About GLHS Community Art

Something Artsy

Community Art is a student-led and student-driven course at GLHS limited to juniors and seniors. Our goal is to increase the community awareness of the importance of the arts in Gahanna.

Something Design-y

Our class has been working diligently with another Gahanna Lincoln course called SWAG (School to Work Advanced Graphics) to design and create publicity for all of our events. Logos, brochures, fliers, websites — they can do it all!  We love SWAG!  And GLHS Fab Lab has created signs and plaques for the Herb n’ Arts Fair as well as the Creekside Bridge Mural.

Something Education-y

The students in Community Art have created all of the projects we have worked on this year and in the process of completing them, they have learned how to:

  • meet and greet clients
  • write grants
  • create a budget
  • work together
  • present themselves professionally
  • communicate clearly
  • be confident in many settings
  • work on projects from conception to completion

Something Creative-y

Since the students are responsible for creating the curriculum, they have worked hard to find projects that interest them and can impact the community. To name a few, they have:

  • designed and installed murals at various Gahanna schools
  • worked with the City of Gahanna to re-paint the Creekside water wall
  • worked with the Gahanna Visitors Bureau to create “selfie-stations” for the Holiday Lights Parade
  • repainted playground maps and designed new hopscotch patterns for the elementary schools
  • organized the re-creation of the Creekside Bridge Mural involving all eleven Gahanna Schools
  • worked on the annual Herb n’ Arts Fair that highlights what Gahanna Arts are all about — art, music, drama, and physical education
